The Seattle Public schools have started shutting down schools because of a confirmed case of Swine Flu in our fair city.
But is this 'Really' something to panic about?
Now, I'm not saying that Swine Flu isn't virulent and contagious.
I'm not saying that people don't or won't die of the stuff.
BUT:
Remember Ebola? Now, THAT virus was the real deal. Turned your innards into pudding. We got movies and books galore on that one!
OJ and the King of Pop- what circus sideshows inundating television and press, water coolers and coffee klatches- much in the same way our attention is focused on the "disease of the month".
So, what next? SARS, Avian Flu, Swine Flu, Mad Cow, MRSA, pandemics sweeping the globe!
Unfortunately, people ARE getting sick and some are dying because of the flu. But I just attended a memorial for an otherwise healthy 65yo felled by a vicious staph infection. Countless others are being mowed down by incidents & accidents, wars and attacks, unique or mundane ends.
If one is old, poor or very young, horrible infectious diseases like Swine Flu can get you. Most of us can fully recover, given the opportunity of proper treatment.
In this writer's opinion it's not "Chicken Little time".
Can't we all just get along, and move our National Consciousness to something "more important"?
