As snow envelopes Greater Seattle, as the slush and ice cover our highways, walks and streets, Larry and I are practicing for negotiating DC sidewalks in January.
Today we braved lane restrictions, spin outs, and closed streets to make it downtown to meet with Congress Jim McDermott's lone staffer, Rebecca Saldana. The subject of the day was the Realtor'sŪ 4 Point plan to stimulate the housing recovery.

Everyone is allowed to contact their Member of Congress. This is really a great start to beginning economic recovery.
In talking with Rebecca, she mentioned that she and her man are taking their 2 boys (ages 7 &10) back east for the Inauguration too! First they are flying from Seattle to Philly to meet up with her mom, and then they are all driving down from Philly to DC. Oh, and did I mention that Rebecca is quite pregnant!! Some people are taking this "adventure" pretty seriously!
Rebecca gave us some early intel that backpacks and umbrellas will be forbidden in our exclusive (first 300,000 people!) standing room area. Given DC's predictably crummy winter weather, we might be begging to borrow your mountain climbing, spellunking, or fly fishing clothing!
Frankly, we are having a hard time imagining going all day and night in the same clothes, and after 4-6 hours outside witnessing the actual ceremony, and a quasi-formal New York reception that afternoon across from the White House! Your faithful correspondent and his sidekick will go from the "Dynamic Duo" to "Frumpy and Damp ". We'll try to have plenty of pictures to share with you!
CELL PHONE OVERLOAD
With the idea that the local cell phone system is not designed for the inevitable load, we are planning to take a couple of long distance phone cards for use in
"old school pay phones". That way we can keep in touch. Of course this assumes we can find a pay phone!! How the world doth change!
